Review of Kiss Me Organics Matcha Green Tea Powder

You have probably gathered by now that Missy and I are both constantly looking for great new healthy and “clean” options of food. I had heard that matcha powder was absolutely amazing nutritionally, but honestly didn’t know that much about it going into this test/review. All I knew was that my husband sometimes orders it in smoothies at Starbucks and it turns them a weird green color.

Are you familiar with matcha? I was provided a free bag of matcha powder from Kiss Me Organics in order to try it and review it for FitFemmes readers. (However, like anything we review, I will only recommend things that I personally like!)

When the bag arrived I was initially surprised by the small size of it. For some reason I expected it to be like a container of protein powder – big, where you needed one or two large scoops. I quickly learned that matcha powder is highly concentrated and you need a very small amount (1/2 to 1 teaspoon). I was so excited to try it after it arrived that I mixed it up immediately even though I was overdo for a trip to the grocery store and had nothing to put in my smoothie other than protein & glutamine. It looked kind of scary, but it tasted just fine. I really didn’t think the matcha changed the flavor much.

So if you are unfamiliar with matcha and still reading this, you are probably beginning to wonder, “So what is the big deal about this stuff anyway?” Right? Matcha is 100 percent natural green tea leaves. They are ground down to a very fine powdered form. There are a lot of great things about matcha, including:

137X the Antioxidants of Brewed Green Tea — As you probably know, antioxidants are important for everything from slowing down signs of aging to preventing various diseases.

Increased Energy – Matcha provides a natural energy source and has been shown to increase your focus. I am not one to consume much caffeine as it keeps me awake even hours and hours later. I did not have any sleep issues during this past week of consuming matcha. Increased energy is one of those things that is hard to measure since you can’t really know exactly how you would feel if you hadn’t taken something, but I will say that I managed to get through a particularly grueling work week. We had a summer camp going on and I felt a lot better this go around than I did during the one in June. That may or may not have anything to do with the matcha, but I definitely feel like it helped.

Improved Skin Health – My skin is very finicky and anything that can potentially help it is a huge plus in my book. According to the Kiss Me Organics website, “Scientists have discovered that Matcha Green Tea helps protect the skin from harmful UVrays, while improving blood flow and oxygen levels lifting the overall quality of the skin.”

When you order the Kiss Me Organics matcha powder from Amazon, you also receive a free recipe ebook with 50+ ways to use your matcha. The book is emailed to you after purchase. There were a lot of really interesting recipes in here including smoothes, breakfasts, breads, sweets, soups and cocktails. As I mentioned, I had a really busy week so I was lucky to just dump the powder in my smoothie. This was about as creative as it got:

However, I definitely think I will try some of these recipe ideas in the future!

All in all, I am impressed with this product. I will definitely try to keep it incorporated into my diet.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

  1. I always HEAR about matcha but have yet to try it! Great review, I wonder if it’s caffeine free, since I have to limit my intake!

    • I am very caffeine sensitive too. From what I could find, matcha has roughly 25mg per serving, so a lot less than most coffees (or high caffeine content drinks). I still always had it in the morning to be safe, but never felt a “crash” like I often do from caffeine.
