Back in the fall, I did a 10k in Niagara Falls. It was my first time running for a charity. If you know me at all, you know I have a love for a certain boy band, New Kids On The Block. Danny Wood, member of NKOTB, started Remember Betty in honor of his mother who died from breast cancer a little over 15 years ago. Remember Betty is a non profit organization that directly aids individuals affected by breast cancer. Remember Betty has raised well over one million dollars to help people with breast cancer. New Kids fan or not, you have to agree that number is impressive and amazing! After my run in Niagara, I was asked to help with the Chicago team for Remember Betty. I happily accepted because I have personally been affected my cancer. My dad died two years ago from cancer. My work with Remember Betty is how I choose to continue my dad’s memory and legacy.
The picture above is the team I ran with in Niagara. Danny was supposed to run with us but he was nursing an achilles injury at the time. Danny spoke about his mom at a team dinner the night before the race. He said a few things that reminded me a lot of my experience with my dad. It is devastating to lose someone to cancer. It changes you for the rest of your life if you are with a loved one as they die. It is one of the worst days of your life but you would not trade it for anything. Danny went on to say he saw his mom in all of us that continue to help him fight cancer through Remember Betty. Betty’s legacy lives on through our work for Remember Betty. Remember Betty is one of two organizations I volunteer for currently. Both organizations directly aid families affected by cancer. If I am able to help provide some financial relief to families affected by cancer, I will continue to volunteer for these organizations.
June 7th the Remember Betty Chicago team will be participating in the Color Run! We are going to raise some money for a great cause and have a lot of fun while we do it! Want to join us? You can join our team and run with us! Do not worry if you are not a runner. You can walk the course, as well. Our team name is Remember Betty and our password is RB2015. Let me know if you decide to join us! I will give you more information personally if you join our team. Can’t join us for the event but want to help our cause? You can donate here.
I have never done the Color Run but look forward to June 7th! Join us and help us fight cancer! Or again, you can DONATE! Ok, just one more photo because it is my favorite one from my time in Niagara with Remember Betty. It has been posted on here before but come on, cutest ever.
Doubtful he will ever see this post but thank you Danny for starting Remember Betty. It is an honor to help you fight cancer. I am thankful for the opportunity to carry on your mom and my dad’s legacies.
